"El Paradigma Sur" Call for Submissions

Description
El Paradigma Sur is an interdisciplinary, student-run journal at the University of Toronto supported by the Latin American Studies program in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese. The journal is committed to exploring various social, political, scientific, economic, and cultural topics related to Latin America and its diasporas while providing undergraduate students with a platform for academic exposure in an inclusive and accessible environment. We are currently seeking original submissions from undergraduate students for our upcoming Spring 2024 issue.
As a critical and interdisciplinary journal, we are looking for entries that creatively engage and explore various topics. Most excitingly, we accept pieces in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, so please feel free to submit in the language you feel most comfortable writing in.
Acceptable submissions include, but are not limited to, in-course and non-course related research papers, op-eds, poetry, photo essays, and short stories. The selection process will be based on originality, engagement with the source material, and accessibility of thought and language.
Regardless of your program of study, any and all undergraduate students currently enrolled at the University of Toronto may submit to El Paradigma Sur — as long as the submission is relevant to Latin America.
Submission criteria and process:
- Each student is allowed to submit multiple items if they would like.
- It must be written by an undergraduate student currently enrolled at the University of Toronto. UTM and UTSC students are welcome to submit as well.
- The maximum length of a piece is 15 pages or 3,000 words.
- Students must include in-text citations and a bibliography / works cited list if submitting an in-course item.
- If submitting an in-course item, students must submit a cover page that includes: your name, the course it was submitted for, the grade received, and the instructor’s name.
- Submit your item(s) electronically by uploading a pdf, jpg, or docx to this Google Form or through the link on our Instagram platform. The deadline to submit is February 16th, 2024 @ 11:59PM EST.
Papers will be selected by early Spring. Authors will be notified of our decision by then, and will be matched with one of the associate editors of our team to work together and prepare their works for publication.
